'CUTS': New Updated 2nd Edition Book and Documentary Screening
DoBeDo is delighted to announce the re-release of ‘CUTS’, a book of portraits shot by Steve Brooks in the ‘90s and ‘00s at the cult hairdressers 'Cuts' in Soho, London.
Following the success of the first edition, which sold out within one month of its release, this second edition will contain additional unseen images. It will also coincide with the promotion for the upcoming release of 'CUTS' a documentary film by Sarah Lewis about the salon and co-owners Steve Brooks and James Lebon. All profits from sales of this edition will fund the completion of the documentary.
The triptychs that appear in the book were originally displayed as enlarged 35mm black and white contact sheets in the window off the Soho shop, replaced only when the next roll was developed, and then they were forgotten. 'CUTS' is therefore a valuable record of the institution and its Soho clientele from a significant era in London's cultural history.
The book launch for this second edition was held at Reference Point with a Q&A with Sarah Lewis chaired by Jonah Freud. Since this event, the documentary was screened at the Locarno Film Festival 2023 where it was awarded the Jannuzzi Smith Award and Le Film Français Award by the festival's First Look jury.
